Why I wanted PC-BSD before I knew it existed!

Why did I want PC-BSD?

Well, when I first discovered I wanted PC-BSD, I'd never even heard of it before. In Late 2006, I decided it was time to make my new office "Honest!"

Seriously, I can't afford to pay for When?Doze (You never know "When" it's going to "Doze!"). I needed to replace XP with something honest. So I started to look...

I make simple web-pages and build Huge databases! So most office functions are needed, a good word processor, spreadsheet, and web design. A quality programmers Text Editor is a must! Plus a Web and Database Test Platform!

The drawback is that I have some software that is designed for When?Doze XP, like my favorite Text editor and my cell phone controller! I am working on this now!

Well, I tried Linux... Wow! How mixed up! If you go the Linux route - make sure you know which windows you are using! I liked FreeBSD and use it on all our servers in a number of countries (169 countries a couple years ago when I last counted!)! I heard you could use FreeBSD on a Desktop and tried to build one - needless to say, I failed! Just too much configure this and that!

I was advised to try DesktopBSD... Honestly, I got it loaded, but could never get it past the welcome page! UGH!

I was given an older copy of PC-BSD and tried it for a month or so - but I could never get it to play music (I love Keith Green!).

In Mid 2007, We added another employee. He is a truly honest man who does his best to follow Yeshua (that is Jesus in some Scriptures). We started to build his workstation and I asked him if he wanted to use a bootlegged When?Doze XP or try something else. After he clarified that When?Doze was an illegal copy, he said he needed to be an example for other businesses who what to be Honest and do what is right (ouch - that little truth hurt!).

So I told him that I was able to get PC-BSD to work, but no sound. He said that was ok, as long as he could do his work and it was Honest! I downloaded PC-BSD 1.3 and he loaded that, but he was having a couple small problems that I had no time to help figure out. So I downloaded 1.4 Beta! WOW!

The installation was very straight forward. And MUSIC! I started thinking I could actually get rid of When?Doze XP
(As in eX-Program!).

He has been using it for a couple months now and as we have all seen what it is able to do... We (me and my partners, Percy and Jef) decided to switch ALL our work stations to PC-BSD.

That is where the real story began.
