Monster Upgrade ~ WordPress 3.13, Atahualpa 3.6.7 and others!

with 2 Comments

June 7 2011 ~ This has been kind of a rough year for me. My best friend died, then my longest friend (42 years) died, then my brother (and also my friend of 57 years) died. Kind of a hard year… And updates have fallen behind…

WordPress

3.1.1 – This Morning
3.1.2 – The Goal!

STEP 1 ~ Back up the database!

I started out backing up my database. I find that when I do this, I almost never have problems! I actually backed it up twice, once to a local sql file on the server and once to my local workstation hard drives. These are actually two different backups! The server is a function of my ISP and the local copy came from a phpMyAdmin!

Everything went smoothly here.

Step 2 ~ Upload the Files…

I pretty much followed the standard procedures here…

With the exceptions that instead of deleting a folder or file, I just renamed it starting with 313 (being replaced by version 3.1.3 – it may have been better to name it 304 as it actually was a part of WordPress 3.0.4 – but I did not think of that!)

Example: wp-app.php was renamed to 313wp-app.php, then I uploaded the new wp-app.php

That way I still had the old file and could revert to it if I needed to.

Step 3 ~ Updating my networks…

After uploading the new 3.1.3 version files, I pointed Firefox to my dashboard (/wp-admin/) It crunched a little and then asked me to update my networks (click here) which I did and boom! WordPress 3.1.3 was running…!

No fuss, no muss, in less time than it took me to write this so far, WordPress 3.1.3 was running… Now on to the Plugins…

Step 4 ~ SyntaxHighlighter Evolved

WordPress quickly gave me this message…

SyntaxHighlighter Evolved
You have version 3.1.1 installed. Update to 3.1.2.
Compatibility with WordPress 3.1.3: 100% (according to its author)

In my FTP program I went to the folder…

/wp-content/plugins

And then changed the name of the folder

syntaxhighlighter
to
syntaxhighlighter3.1.1

Then I moved syntaxhighlighter3.1.1 into the folder

/wp-content

Just for safe keeping.

I uploaded the new

syntaxhighlighter (ver 3.1.2)

And activated it – Finished!

Step 5 ~ Page Links To

I followed basically the same procedures in Step 4 to update the Page Links To Plugin…

Step 6 ~ Atahualpa

At this point I have updated to WordPress 3.1.3 including all the plugins.  The only remaining message is:

Atahualpa
You have version 3.6.4 installed. Update to 3.6.7.

For this I will need to make a new Modification…

Atahualpa Easy Header Mod Ver 3.6.7
Notice that I am not using the Atahualpa version numbers to make this easy to associate…

I finished building the:
Atahualpa Easy Header Mod Ver 3.6.7

Step 7 ~ Install Atahualpa 3.6.7

I simply uploaded the Atahualpa 3.6.7
with the
Atahualpa Easy Header Mod Ver 3.6.7
To the folder at:
/wp-content/themes/atahualpa

Everything Worked Perfectly!

Hey, just a quick question – does this work on version 3.7.6, or is there a different mod version for it?

    Thanks a bunch!

We plan to have this in a complete bundle by mid August. Need to finish up the docs. Watch tukod.com for the announcement.
